Real Housewives of Salt Lake City fight divides Twitter: Does thumbs-up emoji mean fk yo

Does the thumbs-up emoji mean something else entirely?

The “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” stirred up a social media debate following an on-air fight about whether the emoji is actually code for “f–k you.”

The drama started after Lisa Barlow confronted co-star Heather Gay for sending her a thumbs-up emoji in response to a text about attending a party, claiming Gay meant it as a “f–k you.”

Gay initially said her text was innocent — but confused things even further by saying, “Two thumbs-up is the f–k you and that’s universal text code.”

Meanwhile, later in a confessional when a producer asked Gay if the text was meant as a “f–k you” to Barlow, she slyly responded, “Absolutely.”

The entire exchange left the majority of the “Housewives” confused, with many saying they’d never heard of the thumbs-up having a second meaning.

On Twitter, the on-screen drama sparked some serious “Salt Lake City” debate.

“A thumbs up emoji means f–k you?!? Lol oh boy my boss isn’t gonna be happy with me 😂👍,” one Twitter user wrote.

“Does that mean Siskel & Ebert’s Two Thumbs Up really mean Two Bleeps Up?” another joked.

But other fans said they knew about the emoji’s non-PG meaning, with one saying, “A thumbs up is 100% a f–k you.”

For the record, Urban Dictionary says a thumbs-up is “said when someone did something good,” but another definition notes that, “Giving someone the ‘thumbs up’ hand gesture or emoji, is another way to say ‘f–k you.'”

Meanwhile, a number of other fans on social media couldn’t believe what they were hearing on the show.

“the fights on #RHOSLC bring dumb housewives fights to a whole new level. smelling like hospital and a thumbs up text being an eff you all in two episodes? this is incredible thank you @Andy,” one fan said.

“It makes me sad when adult women argue over the meaning of emojis. Just as an adult women (sic). Like when I send an eggplant emoji, it means I’m making eggplant for dinner. I never give a thumbs up emoji because I’d not give thumbs up in real life,” another wrote.
